Bins

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 19, 2026

Bins ("the app") is a storage inventory tool that helps you record what is inside your storage totes and find things again. This policy explains what information Bins collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Bins is operated by Jesse Haynes.

Information We Collect

Bins collects only what it needs to run your account and store your inventory:

Bins does not collect your device location, contacts, or health data.

Camera and Photo Access

Bins asks for camera and photo library access only when you choose to add a tote's cover photo or use Scan a Photo. Photos are never accessed in the background, and nothing is uploaded unless you pick or take a photo yourself.

Scan a Photo (AI)

Scan a Photo is optional. When you use it, the photo you take is resized and sent to Anthropic's Claude API, which returns a list of the items it recognizes so you can edit and save them. That photo is used only to produce the list: it is not stored on our server after the scan, and it is not used to train any model. If you never tap Scan a Photo, no image is ever sent to that service. Cover photos are unrelated to this feature and are never sent to it.

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to provide the app's features: signing you in, saving and syncing your zones and totes, searching your inventory, and sharing a household with people you invite. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or rent your personal information.

Tracking and Advertising

Bins does not track you across other apps or websites, does not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not share your data with data brokers.

Households and Sharing

Bins is built around a shared household. When you invite someone with an invite link, the people who join that household can see and edit its zones, totes, items, and photos. Only invite people you want to have that access. You can revoke an outstanding invite link at any time from the Household screen.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on our server and protected by standard measures including encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your account and inventory for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from Household → Delete My Account in the app. That removes you from the household, and if you are the last member, the household and all of its zones, totes, items, and photos are deleted. You can also email us at the address below to request deletion.

Children's Privacy

Bins is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
